Sara's race reports and pics

I been a bit slack recently posting these reports - it's been too busy to get in the office and blog them to be honest but finally managing to get a few of of team stories up  - this ones from Sara.
Sunday 4th September, the annual Bodmin triathlon. A very well run and enjoyable event, the sun shone for most of the swim, (shame it was inside!), and it stayed dry for most of the cyclists, although there was a strong south westerly headwind for the bike out to the roundabout at Victoria, it was then a helpful tailwind for the return journey. The rain didn't start till most of us were running, which for me was good, I like running in the rain! As the St Agnes triathlon was being held at the same time, I was the only cyclelogic representative at Bodmin, but i am pleased to report that not only did I win the female V40-49 age group, i was also the fastest female overall, no doubt partly due to my new wheels! ( thanks Steve and Shane for all your help!)

Friday August 19th (bit belated this one, sorry!)

The Penzance swim, mine and my two older boys first go at this one, will definitely do it again, great atmosphere with all the spectators cheering you on as you swim past them, also brilliant that the children have their own swim and you don't have to accompany them if they don't need to be accompanied, leaving you free to enjoy your own swim! Cyclologics’ Dave Barlett did a fantastic time of 16.06, narrowly beaten into second place by Grant Quigley who made it in 15.29, these are seriously fast times!! I managed a more leisurely 23 minutes, however my gps did say i had swum 1.33 miles rather than the 1300m i was supposed to have swum! More sighting practise needed i think!

It will be the USN Padstow standard and sprint triathlon at Harlyn Bay this Sunday 11th, although the weather forecast at the moment looks as if it might be a duathlon rather than a triathlon, thanks to health and safety standards the bigger organisers have to adhere to, hopefully not, but we will see!

The Cormelian (Hayle Standard)

The weather conditions were being kind to us this weekend and changing for the good after the heavy wind and rain we have had this week. The sea looked flat but was hard sighting once in deep waters many people stating after the race that it was actually quiet tricky. Dave and I were up the front once again Dave leading the swim I followed straight after. Next is a quiet controversial 5min dead zone from the water timing mat to transition due to crossing a main road, they enforced it at the Middle distance this year and thought it worked well although it is possible for someone to cross the line in 1st and not win. I took my wetsuit off in the zone and lightly ran to transition, Dave headed across with more pace than me. The race was between me and Dave the whole way working off each other pushing the bike hard, I eventually dropped Dave at Leedstown giving me a slight 30sec lead or so. But Dave brought that back and we entered transition. Dave had a great transition setting the pace I closed the gap as soon as I could. The run is undulating to say the least, the first hill out of transition being super steep and not the best way to get going onto a run. Up to the football club I pulled out a lead over Dave who was feeling a bit sick at the bottom of the hill. The run is then part of mounts bay 10km route and then a trail run on the way back not allowing a rhythm. I felt strong and comfortable on the run but being careful not to twist or full on the uneven path. Dave and I had both come of the back of some good wins recently, Dave winning Bude triathlon with a big lead and I won the St Ives biathlon for the 3rd year (longest biathlon streak) running also with a massive lead. We were both in good form going into the race both with some niggles which comes with the territory or racing, and were both evenly matched for much of the race not giving away any advantage.

The results provisionally atm:

1st Neil Eddy 2.01

2nd Dave Bartlett 2.04/5

3rd Kyle Kearey 2.10

Windsor Elite Triathlon

Windsor Elite Triathlon: - Many thanks to Neil for this account of Windsor Elite Tri.

We were glad with a reasonable hour for the start of our race, with the 1st wave of the weekend off at 6.00am. Again, as usual with the elite waves, it took a while to get everyone in line, maybe some athletes are always looking for that edge on the swim start. Soon the swim strung out with one leader out the water with over 20secs lead with the rest to follow. Dave and I followed shortly after both coming out of the water in the top 10 with Dave one position in front of me.

Quick transitions and off onto the bike, Dave put his feet in his shoes straight away which cost him a few seconds, I hung on a mile or so, but we were both in the chase pack along with some strong athletes including the eventual winner, Steve Worthington, and Rich Allen.

A fast first 15 miles travelling 28-30mph on the flat soon saw us catch the front pack. The next few miles saw a few attacks but with little success, Dave and I took our spell at the front. I tried to give Dave a heads up with a few miles back to transition and then there was a slight break off the roundabout, I got myself towards the front and got on the back end,  Dave just missed it taking a wide corner. The few seconds lead soon went as it was at the end of the bike leg, Dave and I were well positioned which is essential at Windsor due to having a small side pavement into transition.

I went out onto the run in about 5th just ahead of Rich Stannard and Marc Jenkins with Dave just behind. The run saw some fast pace stuff, the eventual winner being a slight shock.  Dave and I finished well within the top half of 50 athletes. I finished in 1.56 in 15th and Dave 22nd in 2.00hrs.

A very strong field this year as on previous years I would of broke into the top 10 and top 15 for Dave. A great result for us both and valuable  experience, an amazing debut at elite level for Dave.

Jeff's Diary - the season so far

Jeff2Penzance Crit 08/05/10 - first race of the year after waiting an age to get BCF licence! although it did help in doing some much needed training.  A decent field with 35 riders dry conditions although very cold and windy with a strong headwind along the back straight. This played a major part in the race as it split the field at halfway resulting in a group of 10 riders at the head of the field which included myself. This group stayed away for the race duration. Some poor positioning on the final corner meant only a 3rd position I should know better!

This was my first race on the Giant TCR Advanced 1 exceptionally stiff frame but still comfortable with slick gear change from the new 6700 ultegra groupset really pleased with the bike just need to improve the fitness.

St Austell TT 09/05/10 - Thought I felt ok being day after the crit but the first TT of the season was a shock to to the system just scraped top 15 nice photograph though!

Penzance crit 13/05/10 - fine sunny evening which brought out plenty of riders 40+ difficult to get away due to strong tailwind down the main straight however Junior Heffernan slipped out the front of the bunch with 15 mins to go and soloed to a convincing win. I took the sprint for 2nd place so all in all not a bad evening. Photos attached

Penzance crit 27/05/10 - Another fine day and big field (for Cornwall!).  Attacking riding from the start. I formed a break with 3 other riders with 20 minutes to go. We worked together well and  established a 30 second gap to the main bunch which was maintained to the finish.  The sprint was fairly straight forward and I was really pleased to obtain the race victory. Photos attached

Camel Valley 50mile Time Trial  13/06/10 - first time at doing a '50' and was really looking forward to the event. The best time trialists from the South west were present as the event incorporated the Navy/RAF/Marines championship.

A beautiful dawned although arriving at race HQ I was still a bit grumpy from the 0500am alarm call.  First time out with a disc wheel (FSA) not to sure if it helped due to the wind conditions. Went through the first 25mile in 57 minutes and was feeling pretty good and catching plenty of riders went through a bad patch between 32 to 34 miles but got it together for the final run and completed the 50 miles in 1 hour 54 minutes. Really pleased with result and finished 6th overall out of a field of 70 riders and was the 2nd cornish rider.

Sunday 6th June 2010 – Helston Triathlon (400m/16mile/3.5mile)

Cycle Logic team take top 3 male spots and 1st female in the sixth Helston Triathlon last Sunday.  The event started with a 400m swim in Helston Sports Centre swimming pool, followed by a 16 mile bike ride from the Sports Centre going out past Culdrose to Cury and then back through Garras and past Culdrose back to the Sports Centre.

The event was then completed with a 3.5 mile run from the Sports Centre to Turnpike roundabout then along the Falmouth Road, up Rowe's Lane down through Trenethick Barton Farm, along Water-ma-Trout Industrial Estate, along the bottom of Carey Park then up the killer hill of Belmont Road and into the School Field to finish.

The eventual male winner was David Bartlett who recorded the fastest swim and run times of the day.  Neil Eddy recorded the fastest bike split of the day, eventualy finishing second and new Cycle Logic team member Michael Birchmore finished 3rd.  The female winner was Anne Maskell, nearly 2 minutes ahead of her nearest rival.

Saturday 27th May 2010 - West Cornwall Middle Distance Triathlon, Marazion (1.9k/52miles/20k)

David Bartlett of Cycle Logic was in action again last weekend racing in Marazion on a scorching day which was reported to have hit 28 degrees!  Not quiet so warm at 7am in the water, a shivery 13 degrees.  Over 100 people contested the middle distance event that changed bike courses days before due to road works, unfortunately meaning no advantage for the locals!

From the mass beach start and run into the water, David established an early lead and swam the race solo, completing the swim in 24 minutes, a minute ahead of his nearest competitor Kyle Kearey of Mounts Bay Harriers.  The windy and winding bike course left some debate weather a TT bike was right for the challenge.  But a 2 hours 35 bike split on his Giant Trinity Alliance TT proved the correct decision, 3rd fastest of the day and 2nd into T2.  David made a bid to catch current leader Nicholas Horston of Plymouth Triathlon Club and did so 2k into the 20 kilometre run.  But the 6 times Ironman specialist proved too strong and eventually pulled away to take the win by 4 minutes.  A very sore but extremely pleased David completed the run in 1 hour 35 and the overall race 50 minutes quicker than last years time, finishing in 4 hours 36 minutes.  If only we could improve every race by this much!!

DAVID BARTLETT 2ND - COTSWOLD SUPER SPRINT TRIATHLON

Sunday 9th May - SIS COTSWOLD SUPER SPRINT TRIATHLON (400m OW/20k/5k)

Getting a head start on the triathlon season meant travelling up to the Cotswold to join 300 other keen competitors for the Cotswold Super Sprint Tri (400m/20k/5k).  The 8am start time meant the water temperature was toe curling and certainly made transitions interesting.  New team member David Bartlett exited the water first in a 5 min swim split and stormed out of transition with feet numb with Paul Horsfall (BAD Tri) and Chris Stuart (ATA Army Tri) hot on his heels.

Riding his Giant Trinity Alliance and new Zipp 404's David split a 29.54 the 4th fastest of the day and his best bike split to date.  Although extremely pleased with his progress, Michael Milstead (Moti Giant) had put in a stunning course record split of 28.20 to take the lead leaving David in second.

The run was a solo effort with  first or third place not being seen until the finish line.  A modest 17 minute run split secured 2nd and a pleasing opener to the season.  Final results;

CYCLE LOGIC TEAM CHANGES FOR 2010

There can be no denying the fantastic results that www.cyclelogic.co.uk has enjoyed over the last 3 seasons gaining top male and female honours in triathlons, time trials, road races, MTB events and placing highly in adventure racing, cyclo cross and BMX events on both a local and National basis.  We are very fortunate as a shop to be supported  by some of the counties top athletes and cyclists and have been proud to have been associated with them and to have been able to support them in what ever way we can.

For 2010 there are some major changes in team www.cyclelogic.co.uk  Matt Pullen, Gary and Chris who pretty much dominated the local  Triathlon and time trial scene recently certainly picked up from where Martin left off in 2007 prior to injury and all four have been excellent ambassadors for CYCLE LOGIC.

Matt has semi retired now from triathlon to concentrate on his Rigging business and possibly running and rowing. Martin is taking some time out from competitive cycling  and  Gary and Chris have both expressed their wishes to, and are obviously capable of, racing at Premier Calendar level which would involve the total support of a full race squad at a National level.  This is obviously beyond our means not least on a sheer logistics point of view, travel accommodation etc. As such they have now found themselves teams that have this capability.  We would like to wish all of them the best of luck for the future and are pleased and proud that we have been in some way involved with their race careers to date, and thank them for the fantastic performances that they have turned in for us over the years.

So, who's new?

We would like to welcome on board

Neil Eddy, David Bartlett and Lee Bradley.

Neil and David are both Triathletes (and swimmers) of a very high standard and will be very welcome team mates for Anne, Sam, Jason, Geoff and Nathan.   Lee has been involved in both Triathlon and more recently Cyclocross both as a competitor on a Giant TCX and as an organiser being responsible for holding the Southwest cyclo-cross rounds in North Devon and other disciplines such as organising the SWDC 25 TT Champs 2008 s12/25r, for Tamar CC..

We are also seeing some team members cross over from road into MTB XC events with both Stuart and Andy expressing their intentions to get 'down and dirty' this season.

So that's it at the moment -

Welcome to the party.

Gary and Chris left to rue what could have been!

30 riders were brave enough to enter the s4/50, including some strong riders. Julius Jennings, Stuart Hall, Karl Hodson, and Gary Foreacres to name a few. The course is a pretty hard one with several long draggy climbs and some fast descents. Sean Childs is the course record holder with a 1hour 52minute ride.

The alarm clock went off at 4.20am and up I got blurry eyed to pick Chris Lobb, my team mate up and head up to Buckfastleigh for a 50mile time trial on the s4. I would be lying if I wasn’t wondering what the hell I was doing! As I picked Chris up we could see several drunken people returning home from nights out on the booze, things normal people do I suppose!

Both Chris and myself had only ridden one 25m time trial this year and never even attempted a 50m time trial as we have been concentrating on the road so expectations weren’t very high. Chris was race number 37 and myself 55. The start time had been moved from 7.00am to 7.30am, we both assumed that number 1 would be off at 7.30am. WRONG!

It turned out that number 30 was off at 7.30am, this caused both of us to be late, Chris by 18minutes and myself by 7minutes! The timekeepers assured us both that we wouldn’t be deducted any time for this and off we set. With a fairly stiff breeze I could feel my tri spoke catching the wind in sections of the course but quickly settled into a nice tempo and was quickly catching people, this was worrying as I wasn’t sure if I had set off to fast as I wasn’t sure how to pace myself as this was my first ‘50’. However on the second lap I realised that I was still feeling strong and maybe I had judged this just right. I had!

I stopped the clock at 1hour 51mins 36secs. A new course record!

However when the results board come in, Chris and I both had time penalties after all. I was given 1hour 58mins and Chris 2hours 11mins. Chris had actually ridden a cracking 1hour 53minutes which would have given him third place!

We both faced the long drive home completely gutted! Hard to take!

Results:
1st: Stuart Hall – Altrax – 1. 52. 56
2nd: Julius Jennings – Guercotti – Jjcoach – 1. 54. 48
3rd: Tom Albion – Guercotti – JJ coach – 1. 55. 18

Chivenor Road Race results

BACK TO BACK WINS FOR GARY.

Gary Chambers has won the last two rounds of the Chivenor circuit race series in Barnstaple. Gary rode away from the field on both occasions to take two fine solo victories. His second win was a special one for him as it seen him gain his 1st category road race license.

Modbury Road Race 3.

Following up from his 2nd place in the first Modbury Road Race, Gary took a fine 4th place against a strong field of elite riders. There was a full cycle logic team riding the race, with Chris Lobb playing a great team role for Gary, upsetting the rhythm of the peloton to help prevent them catching the breakaway group containing Gary.

Cervelo S3 takes Stage 13

cervelo-stage-13

17-Jul-2009: Heinrich Haussler won today's 13th stage of the Tour de France in spectacular fashion by using his tremendous descending skills and then holding on to his lead over the succession of climbs for a great solo victory. Thor Hushovd also had a good day taking back the green jersey by taking 6th place in the stage. He now leads Mark Cavendish (Columbia-HTC) by 5 points.

Haussler time trialled home over four minutes ahead of second place rider Amets Txurruka - using to the full the aerodynamic design of his S3 Cervelo.

Available and in stock.

Team Tor 2000 Circuit Series Event 3

Team Tor 2000 Circuit Series Event 3Thursday 4th June 2009Somerset RC all the moves were covered and nothing was allowed to get away so early on.Somerset RC) put in a massive effort and rode off the front of the bunch taking Doug Dewey (Pendragon) with him. These two were setting the pace as the bunch strung out behind as attempts were made to bring them back. To their credit, they held on and were soon to be joined by 8 others bridging across along the back straight. These riders were Richard Tangay (Pendragon), Gary Chambers (Cyclelogic), Steve Dring (Echelon Spuik), Dave Moffett (Chard Wheelers), Blake Pond (Southfork Racing), Ian Rees (Team Type 1), Phil Borrett (Bikinmotion) and the yellow jersey of Rob Willcocks (Somerset RC).Somerset RC and Pendragon policing the moves it was proving extremely difficult to get away.

Merryfield Airfield,

With summer finally here, the sunshine brought out another mass of riders for the third of seven circuit events at the Merryfield airfield. There was yet another record number of entries from the youths, women and senior men, showing that this series is continuing to grow in popularity.

Youth racing action started the evening off as usual followed by the masses in the 4th, 3rd and E/1/2’s. The weather remained fine with winds only picking up slightly as a slight South Easterly cross wind came across the finishing straight.

The riders gathered for the usual safety briefing and President Obama gag with some anxiety as all the favourites were there. The whistle blew and the E/1/2’s started with the 3rd and 4th category rider’s right behind.

The race started almost too casually as riders slowly got into a rhythm, but it wasn’t long before attacks started firing off from the front. With a good team representation from Pendragon and Yellow jersey holders

Attacks kept on coming but the bunch was sticking together. As they approached half way the whistle sounded to indicate the intermediate sprint. James Smith (

At the mid-way sprint prime the 8 chasers were almost on top of the two leaders, but they held on to take the prime, Dewey first, Smith second closely followed by Willcocks, Pond and Borrett as the 10 came together.

The break represented a good balance of the strongest teams and riders and it wasn’t long before they were pulling away from the main bunch. With a few exceptions, these 10 were working well going through and off to build on the gap they had.

Meanwhile, back in the bunch things were far from over. Riders who missed the break were still eager to jump across to the leaders. This included event number 2 winner Ben Luckwell (Sport Beans/Wilier). But with

The breakaway was now clear by a considerable margin and the bunch was no longer a threat as they entered the final few laps. A quick glimpse behind saw a group of 3 chasers who had managed to slip away from the bunch, but again, were no threat to the break.
Just before the bell it was Richard Tangay who was pushing the break with a quick flex of the muscles to try and drop a few of the weaker riders off the back. His attempts were in vain as the 10 stayed together through the bell and into the final few moments of racing.

Somerset RC in the form of power house James Smith kept the pace high to stop anyone jumping away at the last minute. Another massive effort saw the break strung out as they cornered the back of the circuit for the final time.

It was then that Phil Borrett tried his luck and attacked the break with half a lap to go and was closely followed by Steve Dring and Dave Moffett. Borrett had a few seconds over the 2 chasers as the remaining break watched them ride away. Into the final mile and in another display of strength Smith found his way to the front once more and started to reel the escapees in.

Into the last 200 yards the three were within touching distance as Pond went early followed by, Willcocks, Chambers and Rees. They got up to sprint speed, passed Dring and Moffett just before the line, but Borrett had done enough to narrowly secure the win with Willcocks taking second from Rees in third and Pond fourth.

Omega Circuits Portsmouth. 6/6/09

Elite circuit race.

A strong field of riders were at the start line to race on the concrete banked track at the Mountbatten centre in Portsmouth, strong representation from felt racing was present including the in form Justin Hoy. As always on this track it was straight to business from the off with the VC St Raphael team stringing the bunch out into single file down the back straight. With attacks coming thick and fast it didn’t take long for a spilt to happen, 5 riders got away and got a lap on the field, this included Ian Legg of AW cycles who was riding very strongly. Justin Hoy was trying to get away but was being heavily marked by the field. At the half way point I got away with another rider and gradually we built up a lead of half a lap, however after being out on our own for several laps the fast moving pack eventually caught us. Towards the end Ian Legg got away from the field on his own to win and it was down to a manic bunch sprint on the banked track for the rest of us. Justin Hoy won this closely followed by Blake Pond (southfork) for 6th and 7th position, I came home in 10th place. This race is nails, I recommend everyone as a go at it this season, and if nothing else it is a brilliant speed session!

Totnes Town Centre Crit

Totnes Town Centre Crit
23/05/09

A cracking evening for racing, the sun was out for a change and a big crowd had gathered around the course in the centre of Totnes. The event proved very popular and several riders couldn’t get a ride as the maximum number of 50 entrants had been reached. The course itself was a small circuit with a few cobbled sections and some tight corners, with a steep cobbled hill to finish. The racing was fast from the off with everyone wanting to be towards the front. After only a few laps the field was blown apart with the stronger riders setting a fast pace out of the corners. A group of around 15 – 20 riders had pulled clear of the main field and shortly afterwards the bunch was lapped and pulled out from the race. So it was now down to the remaining 20 riders, soon a group of six riders got away, including Blake Pond (south fork racing), Jake Durant (Mid Devon cc), Gary Chambers (www.cyclelogic.co.uk), Ben Simmons (www.wiggle.co.uk), Andy Hoskings (Cardiff jif) and a Forza Rider. We worked well together at first and built on our lead, but slowly the group began to not work well together. Going in a tight corner my rear tyre blew out and I went down quite hard, thankfully a rider who had been pulled out gave me his wheel and I got back into the race, a big thank you to that rider!! Just as I got back on, now only able to ride on my drops as my hoods had bent inwards, the race came back together and at the same time Blake Pond went off the front which proved to be the race winning move. Onto the finishing hill, the crowd was cheering us on all the way up. Jake Durant took second place and I out sprinted Ben Simmons to take third. The three of us were briefly interviewed about the race in front the crowd during the presentation at the top of the climb. Overall a really good race and evening for all involved, which was organised very well my Mid Devon cc.gc1totnes

Great ride once again form all the cycle logic riders. Gary and Chris both with PB’s. Gary broke the course reckon only for Sean Childs to reply with a stunning ride to take the record!
