Elite circuit race.
A strong field of riders were at the start line to race on the concrete banked track at the Mountbatten centre in Portsmouth, strong representation from felt racing was present including the in form Justin Hoy. As always on this track it was straight to business from the off with the VC St Raphael team stringing the bunch out into single file down the back straight. With attacks coming thick and fast it didn’t take long for a spilt to happen, 5 riders got away and got a lap on the field, this included Ian Legg of AW cycles who was riding very strongly. Justin Hoy was trying to get away but was being heavily marked by the field. At the half way point I got away with another rider and gradually we built up a lead of half a lap, however after being out on our own for several laps the fast moving pack eventually caught us. Towards the end Ian Legg got away from the field on his own to win and it was down to a manic bunch sprint on the banked track for the rest of us. Justin Hoy won this closely followed by Blake Pond (southfork) for 6th and 7th position, I came home in 10th place. This race is nails, I recommend everyone as a go at it this season, and if nothing else it is a brilliant speed session!
