'We would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of some changes that have recently occurred in the wheel assembly process that has had an effect on the overall retail price for 2011.
For the last 3 1/2 years all Zipp wheels sold in the UK have been assembled by Saddleback in Bristol and this has allowed us to keep the end retail price artificially low by significantly reducing fright costs as well as keeping tight control of the labour cost and build quality.
For 2011 SRAM have decided that they will only sell fully built Zipp wheels and will no longer make rims and hubs available separately for anything other than service matters. The wheels will now be assembled by their chain factory in Portugal although the rims and hubs will continue to be made in their factory in Speedway, Indiana.
This change in production process brings with it a significant increase in cost and freight charges all of which have had an impact on the selling price. In addition considerable increases in the cost of the raw materials and a poor euro exchange rate has resulted in this price increase.
However as the market leading brand and the wheelset of choice for many of the best teams we do not feel that these adjustments will have any effect on the desirability of the brand. '
