POWERTAP TRAINING SYSTEMS

Its taken a while but finally we have in stock a range of Powertap hubs, wheels and complete systems. Just like with runners where training has moved on from heartrate based to 'Pace training', cyclists are now focussing their training efforts on power. Basically if you want to go faster you need to increase your power output. The Powertap system enables you to monitor, view, record and download your realtime power output both in training and race situations. Think of it this way, if you are doing a 10 mile time trial and you know that in training you have maintained 'x' number of watts over a given time if you fall below that level in an event then you are not going at your best. Furthermore training can be structured specifically to increase power rather than just maintain 'fitness'.

At first glance the range seems to be a bit of a minefield but a simplified overview would be.

1. A hub: This could be one of four models
Elite + Alloy shell, 12mm steel axle, ANT connectivity, 624grms
Pro + Alloy shell, 12mm alloy axle, ANT connectivity, onboard analyisis,heart,466grms
SL+ Carbon/Alloy shell, 15mm axle, ANT connectivity, onboard analysis, heart,412grms
SLC+ as SL+ but with ceramic bearings 402grms.

All these hubs can be hooked up to either the Powertap headunit (making a system) or connected wirelessly (ANT) to another ANT supported device such as a Garmin Edge.

2. A Head unit (cpu): A wired computer (with wirless power)
A Wireless Elite + computer
A Wireless SL and SLC computer

3. A Rim : Basically we can build the hub into a rim of your choice 20/24/28/32 hole.

Costs are from Elite hub only £600 to an SLC hub built into a wheel with a head unit for £1600

Our money is on the £1400 SL+ system.
