After a couple of disappointing results I was hoping for a good result in this time trial to get back on track before the Kalas Cup at the weekend. However I woke up to rain beating against the bedroom window, this continued all day causing myself and I suspect several others riders to think that a ‘DNS’ might be a good option!!
Thankfully the weather brightened up by the evening and the roads started to dry out. The course itself is not a fast one, with several draggy climbs, some sharp bends and some sections of poor road surface, however 51 riders made it to the start line. I was second to last off and had seen some of the favourites such as Chris Lobb, Paul Friday and Graham Lobb flying along the course, so I new I had to ride well.
I started very hard and was quickly up to race speed, catching two riders by the half way point. As I approached the finish line, a quick look at the watch told me that I had done a quick time, a minute and 30 seconds quicker than my time of last season. My time in the end was 22.01, which gave me the win by well over a minute on the night.
Chris Lobb (Cyclelogic) also had a very good ride taking 4th overall and winning the espoir prize with a long 23. Young Dean Fuller (Camel Valley) won the junior prize with another cracking ride, he looks like he has a promising future ahead of him.
